On June 26 2022, GRCV was honoured to host the Toronto based Filipino-Canadian kulintang band Pantayo for an interactive kulintang workshop. In the workshop, Pantayo “dig deeper into themes of diversity, inclusion, migration, self-esteem, leadership, identity, and how we use music as a tool to connect to tradition while also carving a unique space for ourselves in Canadian music. Students will receive an overview of historical and contemporary kulintang music, how Pantayo translates these learnings into their work, learn about current kulintang groups in the diaspora, and then will break off into groups for a hands-on kulintang lesson with Pantayo members.” This event was sponsored in part by CITR, Mint Records, and Girls Rock Camp Vancouver.
